Thomas Joseph Anderson, 71, died June 17, 1989 in St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center where he had been a patient three days. He had been in failing health since December. Mr. Anderson was born in Logansport on May 28, 1918. He has a graduate of Logansport High School and after graduation he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. he came to Lafayette as young man. He married Alpha Boren on April 24, 1940, in Lafayette; she died Nov. 12, 1982.

Mr. Anderson worked for Alcoa 43 years. He was a press operator in the extrusion department when he retired on May 28, 1981. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and he was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He built his own 21-ft cabin cruiser and took his family on several boating vacations. They traveled the length of the Ohio River and also took it to Kentucky Lake and the Illinois River, plus using the area lakes to enjoy the boat.

Mr. Anderson loved nature and the outdoors; he was an excellent camper. He also was a very talented man who made beautiful and useful leather gifts for his family. He taught his grandchildren how to tie nautical knots and how to build things. His two sons and a grandson are very good carpenters, having learned the trade from him. Mr. Anderson was a member of Alcoa 25-Year Club and Alcoa Retirees Club.

He is survived by two sons, Michael T. Anderson and Philip Lee Anderson; one daughter, Mrs. Patricia Niswonger, all of Lafayette; one sister, Maryellen (Mrs. Robert) Lynch of Indianapolis; one brother, Leo Anderson of Logansport; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Service June 20 in Hippensteel Chapel; internment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
