Robert M. Ashmore was the son of Robert D. Ashmore and Precia M. Mullins, born on 11 May 1883, in Gumlog Township, Pope County, Arkansas. He was a farmer. He was a Presbyterian by faith and lead singing at one time. On 29 Dec. 1901, he married Rosa E. LeFan, daughter of James I LeFan and Wealtha A. Clark. They were married in Gumlog Township, Pope County, Arkansas. Rosa used to say "He came to pick me up for a date on night and said I think we should get married, so we did." She was 16 at the time. They had six children that lived to adulthood, Inez, Gertha, Iva, Otis, Mildred and James. In 1924, they moved their family to Lubbock County, Texas. I have been told they made the move hoping the better climate would help Robert's asthma. In about 1931, they purchased a farm five miles west of Shallowater, Lubbock County, Texas. It was on this farm that Robert made his escape to a beter world on 24 Sept. 1962. (This information was provided by Karen Moore)
