Mary was the daughter of John McCrillis & Margaret Burnside of Londonderry, Ireland. She was born in Aghadowey, Londonderry, Northern Ireland.

She was married 4 times. In her early life in Ireland, she married [#1] unknown Foster, by whom she had one child, a daughter, whom she named Margaret. Being left a widow she then married [#2] unknown Workman, by whom she had a son, John. Again left a widow, she emigrated with her two children to America, where she married [#3] John Henry [his 2nd wife] and they had five children. After his death she became wife of [#4] Richard Ellis....she outlived her fourth husband, spending her last days with her son Andrew Henry, in Leyden, and died there May 11, 1802, in the ninety-seventh years of her age. Her son John Workman, married Phoebe Stewart.
