Leonard - Mrs. Velma "Bill" Christian, 83-year-old newspaper correspondent of Leonard died Thursday (Jan 24) at Campbell Care Nursing Home in Whitewright.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Jan 27) in Taylor Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev Marvin Hancock and the Rev David Riley officiating. Burial will be in Leonard Cemetery.
Mrs. Christian was born in the Blanton Chapel community, the daughter of Charles Henry Blanton and Mattie Aldridge Blanton. On Nov. 8, 1925, she married Guy Christian in Leonard.
She had been a correspondent for the Sherman Democrat since 1966 and the Greenville Banner since 1962. She was a member of the first United Methodist Church in Leonard.
Surviving are her sisters, Miss Ila Blanton of Leonard and Mrs. Juanita Hancock of Blanton Chapel; and brother, Lois Blanton of Blanton Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Ray Hall, Don Haggard, Theodore Vincent, Kenneth Thornton, Grady Teague and Paul Ray Latimer.
