Benito Rudolph Vanterpool of Pemberton, age 81 years, passed away February 29, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Willingboro.

He was a native of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. He joined the U.S. Army and traveled the world to the Philippines, Korea and Vietnam.

Rudy was a retired Sergeant Major with 29 years in the Army and was a decorated veteran of Korea and Vietnam. He also was a retired Maintenance Supervisor for Mount Holly Center after 15 years and a retired Security Guard for Homestead, Mansfield Twp. after 14 years.

Rudy settled in the Lake Valley section of Pemberton Twp. in 1980. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Pemberton, the Eden-Stanley American Legion Post # 294, Pemberton and the VFW. All his life he loved to work.

Beloved husband of Mercedita T.(Mercy) (nee Rodriguez) and father of Edigeo and Vicki Vanterpool, Maria Powers and Stephanie Soto. Also survived by 13 brothers and sisters and 7 grandchildren and one on the way.

Relatives and friends of Rudy's family are invited to his viewing and visitation 9 to 11 AM Friday, March 9, 2012 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at the Fort Dix Main Army Chapel, 5240 New Jersey Ave., Fort Dix, after which there will be another viewing and visitation from 12 Noon to 3 PM at the Chapel.

It was Rudy's request to be cremated, which will take place privately. Interment of his cremains will be in the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery Wall, Arneytown, North Hanover Twp. at a later date.

Anyone attending the visitation and services, please remember to take identification with a picture.
