The second service was held Friday at 2 p.m. at Ivers Funeral Chapel in Fargo, with Rev. Nelson Preus officiating. Entombment was beside his wife in Riverside Cemetery in Fargo. Mr. Baukol died Monday, August 15th in a Minot hospital, following a period of declining health.
Mr. Baukol was born August 6, 1884, at Starbuck, Minn., and was reared on his father's farm near that place. Following his graduation from the Glenwood (Minn.) Academy, he taught school for a time and then enrolled in the school of Pharmacy at the University of Minnesota. He was a druggist at Erskine, Minn., prior to filing on and proving up on a homestead in the area of Stady, in 1906. He moved to Noonan in 1914 after a career as a station agent for railroad companies in Minnesota, Washington and Oregon and was G.N. agent at Noonan for a time. He and his brother-in-law, Martin Ronnei purchased a general store at Noonan and he also engaged in farming in that area. After an absence in western states, he returned to Noonan again in 1923 and learned the lignite mining business while serving as a bookkeeper for the Hought Coal Co.
He founded Baukol-Noonan, Inc, in 1929 and served as its president and general manager until 1950, when he retired. This company is now one of the leading lignite strip mines in the state of North Dakota.
His wife, the former Anna Ronnei, to whom he was married in Starbuck, in 1910, died in Fargo in 1947. After his retirement Mr. Baukol made his home at Noonan, and later with a daughter in Minot. He traveled quite extensively after his retirement, living at various times in Arizona, California and Hawaii.
While living at Noonan he served that city as it mayor and was also president of the school board. He was also a member of Crosby Lodge No. 108 of Masons.
