John O. Graybeal. 75, a resident of Mercer Island, WA since 1964 died Saturday, June 27, 1998 at the Mercer Island Care Center.
Mr. Graybeal was born July 4, 1922 in Yacolt, WA, graduated from Buckley High School in 1939, the University of Puget Sound in 1943, and received a J.D. degree with honors from George Washington University Law School in 1950.
He served in the U.S. Navy Reserve during World War II and continued his service in the active Naval Reserve, retiring as a commander. He was a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 1950 to 1952 and was a member of the Society of Former FBI Agents.
From 1954 to 1998 he practiced patent and trademark law in Seattle and Bellevue and was senior partner in the Graybeal Jackson Haley law firm of Bellevue at the time of his death. He was a member of the Washington State Bar, American Bar Association and American Patent Law Association.
Mr. Graybeal was a lifetime member of the Reserve Officers Association (ROP) and The Retired Officers Association TROA, long time member of the Rainier Club, past member of the Washington Athletic club and current member of the
College Club.
Mr. Graybeal was predeceased by his son, Grant C. Graybeal, in 1995, his brother, Thomas Graybeal, and his niece, Shirley Graybeal.
Survivors include his wife Janice; daughter and son-in-law Lynne E. Graybeal and Scott Harron; son and daughter-in-law J. Gordon and Colette E. Graybeal; grandsons: Trevor Harron and Bayard, Brandt and Broderick Graybeal; brothers
and sister-in-law; Kenneth and Gretchen Graybeal and Richard and Karen Graybeal; aunts; Mabel Rettig and Delia Johnson, nieces Gail Graybeal, Karen McCabe, Gwen Graybeal, Suzie Burns and Sheri Treat; and sister-in-law Marian Graybeal.
A memorial service was held on July 9, 1998 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Mercer Island. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Providence Foundation (cancer area), Hospice of Seattle or Northwest Harvest.
