LICHTENBERG, Bertha b. 7/14/1845 d. 1/05/1907
Place of birth: Germany
Buried in plot E5-038-RM

Cause of death: Dropsy [Edema, caused most commonly by congestive heart failure, liver failure, kidney failure, or malnutrition.]

Son Albert's SS application and death record gives Bertha's maiden name as Hussman. There is also a marriage record from Peoria, Illinois, that says August Lichtenberg and Bertha Notzki were married 10 February 1868 (from Illinois's online search for older marriage records).

Bertha is apparently censused as "Martha" in Peoria, Illinois, in 1870. August Lightenburg, 36, Prussia, blacksmith; Martha, 25, Prussia; August, 1, Illinois.

In 1880 the family are censused on South N Street in Virginia City: August Lichtenberg, 45, Germany (Germany/Germany), laborer; Bertha, 35, Germany (Germany/Germany); children: August, 11, Illinois; Frank, 4, Nevada; William, 2, Nevada; Albert, 6/12, Nevada. All children have parents (Germany/Germany).

In 1900, on south side of Taylor Street in Virginia City: Augustus Litchenburger [sic], Sep 1835, Germany, blacksmith, married 32 years (~1868), not employed 9 months, immigrated 1845, naturalized; Bertha, Jul 1847, Germany, 7 children of whom 6 living, immigrated 1874; Edward, Jun 1883, Nevada; William, Mar 1878, Nevada, miner, married 2 years; Mary, daughter-in-law, Apr 1877, Nevada (New York/California), 1 child/1 living; Leslie, grandson, Mar 1899, age 3/12, Nevada (Nevada/Nevada).

**There are several inconsistencies in the record starting with Bertha's maiden name. Also, Bertha says she immigrated in 1874, which is after August's marriage in Illinois to Bertha Notzi. Finally, Bertha says in 1900 she has had 7 children of whom 6 living: there are two Lichtenberg infants in this cemetery, both assumed to be August and Bertha's. That makes 7 children, of whom 5 are living. If we're missing a child, there are 8, of whom 6 are living.

[Rickards fiction: Bertha Lightenberg (Maiden name unknown)
Was born in Hamberg Germany july 14 1845, she later married August Lightenberg (Date unknown) at a very young age. They had 2 children Bertha Jr. 1861 William 1862 both dying at a few months of age. They came to America settling in Virginia City Nevada were August worked as a Tailor. Bertha died Jan. 5th 1907 at age 61 and August followed her in 1918. (He has no stone) They were laid to rest in the Virginia City Cemetery.]
