Vera A. "Ann" Johnson, age 85, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2011 at Golden Living Center in Lake Norden. Memorial services were Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Watertown with the Reverend Sara Nelson officiating. Music was furnished by Vera's daughters, Trudy Mitchell-Bayne and Alice Bruns as vocalists and Dorothy Brugman as organist. Interment was at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD.
Vera Annabelle Johnson was born on March 8, 1926 to Albert and Gertrude (Slater) Wells in Watertown, SD. She attended school at Watertown High School. Vera then attended Watertown Beauty Academy and worked at Beverly's Beauty Salon in Watertown.
On October 2, 1943 she married Worley Johnson in Watertown, SD where they raised their children. Worley Johnson passed away in January of 1982.
Vera loved to read, write letters to her pen pals and play cards. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, making quilts, collecting praying hands and volunteered at the hospital.
Vera was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church, Christian Women's Club and United Methodist Women.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Worley; her daughter, Lona Johnson; her son, Loren Batien; one brother, Crawford Wells; a sister, Delight Heggstrom; and her grandson, Jeffrey Block.
Vera is survived by her children, Ora Kent of Murdo, SD, Trudy (Dick) Mitchell-Bayne of Roseville, IL, David Johnson and his fiancee' Esther of New London, IA, Alice (Wendell) Bruns of Henry, SD, Bill (Freda) Johnson of Auburn, WA, Ed Johnson and Doria (Mark "Ron") Block of Watertown; her daughter-in-law, Susan Batien of Bombay, NY; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
