SOUTH BEND - Dee "Sonny" Brantley , Jr., 54, of 62425 Mulberry Road, South Bend, Ind., passed away after a three-year illness at 11:15 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, at St. Joseph's Medical Center.

Mr. Brantley was born on Sept. 13, 1943, in Gidion, Missouri, and was a lifetime resident of the Michiana area.

On April 15, 1960, he married Caroline J. Zakrzewski, who survives, along with his parents, Dee and Iva Mae Brantley of Granger, Ind.

Dee and Caroline cherished their 37 years of marriage. Mr. Brantley is also survived by two daughters, Fawn R. Skelton of Lakeville, Ind., and Karen J. Fournier of Mishawaka, Ind; and by a son, Wayne C. Brantley of Dowagiac, Mich.

Seven wonderful, loving grandchildren survive along with two brothers, Nick A. Brantley of Lakeville and Ronald D. Brantley of Granger.

Mr. Brantley retired in 1993, from Allied Signal Corp., South Bend, after 28 years of service.

Dee was a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and past member of the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Posse, serving as President in 1991.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/SR 23, South Bend.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will be at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation or to the charity of donor's choice.

Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled arrangements and extends heartfelt sympathy to the Brantley family.
