John married by Papal dispensation, Isabella/Elisabeth von Jülich on 3 April 1348, the daughter of William V, Duke of Jülich and Joanna of Hainaut, a younger sister of Queen consort Philippa of Hainault. They had no children, and he died by the age of 22. Isabella would die June 6, 1411.
John's title passed on to his only sister, Joan of Kent, the mother of King Richard II of England, who became the 4th Countess of Kent, and the 5th Baroness Wake of Liddell suo jure, in her own right.
