Lena Gennieve Hobart, 87, of Kamiah, was surrounded by her family when she went home to be with our Heavenly Father Thursday, March 18, 2004, in Grangeville.

Lena was born March 9, 1917, in Edwall, Wash., to Francis James and Settie Sherlottie McMahon. The family moved to Harris Ridge in 1923. Lena attended school at Harris Ridge and Kooskia until her family moved to Kamiah in 1927.

Lena's mother passed away in 1932; Therefore, Lena quit school to help her father tend the farm and raise her brother, Edward.

Lena married Charles Arden Hobart March 7, 1936. They bought the home place that same year, which is where Lena resided until her death. They had two sons, Charles Doyle and Donald Lester Hobart.

Lena was very much a farm girl. She worked and toiled over the land raising cattle, horses, chickens and selling milk and butter her whole married life.

She took so much pride and joy in her land and animals and tended to them until she sold her cattle to her son, Don, in 1986. At this time, Lena became very active in the VFW and spent many years running the Kamiah Emergency Warehouse.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Settie; her father, Francis; her brother, Edward; and her husband, Charles Arden.

Lena is survived by two sons, Charles and Jan Hobart of Kamiah and Donald Hobart of Costa Rica; five grandchildren, Kenneth and Valerie Hobart of Lewiston, CaSandra and Edward Hattrup of McCall, Tanya and Marc Ward of Pierce; Kim and Margaret Hobart of Post Falls, Idaho, and Nick and Misty Hobart of Spokane; 13 great-grandchildren, Zane, Klaree and TaLaynia Hobart of Lewiston, Matthew, Nathan, Megan, Natalie and Noah Hattrup of McCall, Melanie and Jason Hobart of Spokane, Angela Hobart of Clarkston, Taran and (any day now) Tanar Ward of Pierce; and many close, wonderful friends.

The memorial service is at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trenary Funeral Home in Kooskia. Burial will follow at the Kamiah Cemetery.
