Agnes M. Samsel Izatt
Agnes M. Samsel Izatt, 80 passed away on July 19. She had been residing for the past 10 months with her niece and husband. Gladys and Bill Scrimsher in Colville.
Agnes was born Sept 15, 1918, in Winona, ID, to Lawrence H. Samsel and Lilas E. Mitchell Samsel. She was the oldest of seven children.
Her 12 years of schooling were in Kamiah, Potlatch and Winchester. Injuries sustained in an auto accident prevented her from graduating. Later she obtained her diploma through correspondence.
Agnes worked as a cook and cook assistant in the Kamiah Hotel, and at logging camps in Headquarters and O'Mill, ID. In Kellogg she was employed as a dispatcher for the Idaho State Police. She obtained her beautician license in 1960. Later she received training and managed a women's apparel shop in Pocatello, ID.
While employed in Pocatello, Agnes met Merle Izattr. They were married in Elko, NV. Nov. 27, 1965. While Merle worked construction they lived in various Idaho and Nevada towns. At one point they made Kooski, ID, their headquarters, and Agnes helped care for her parents. In 1982 they retired in Culdesac, ID. Merle passed away April 19, 1996.
Agnes had a love for the woods, cooking, and her family. She will be remembered for having a servant's heart, being an encourager, the excellent meals she prepared, and her crocheted afghans.
Agnes was an active member of Grace Evangelical Free Church in Colville.
She is survived by two brothers, Harold and George Samsel of Lewiston, ID; two sisters, Lois Boxleitner, RIggins, ID, and Veta Patton, Post Falls, ID, and 16 nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were two sisters, Doris Clovis and Gladys Crane.
Agnes funeral was Friday, July 23 at Frenary Chapel in Kooskia, with burial following at the Kamiah Cemetery.
