David Benjamin Jacoby was born April 20, 1838, the son of Jacob & Elizabeth Burkholder Jacoby, and died October 6, 1892. In 1860, he was a blacksmith presumably living in Shippensburg and stood 5' 8" tall with brown hair and blue eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Newville, Cumberland County, August 8, 1861, and mustered into federal service at Washington DC August 17 at the rank of private with Co. H, 3rd Pennsylvania Cavalry (60th Pa), and was later promoted to the rank of blacksmith, date unknown. He was absent due to illness beginning July 28, 1863, but was honorably discharged with his company August 24, 1864.
