The World War for the US was entering its 14th month when Robert registered for the draft on June 5, 1918. The war would end nine weeks after his enlistment on September 4th, 1918 that took him to Camp Travis, Texas for basic training and assignment to the Medical Department there. His discharge came on February 16th, 1919 and he was awarded the World War I Victory Medal and honorable discharge lapel pin. Mr. Burns passed in Nacogdoches, Texas and now rests in the Old Salem Cemetery, Shelby County, Texas.
