Robert McGee, 77, of LaHarpe, died Friday, June 30, 2000, at his home in LaHarpe. He was born on Dec. 29, 1922, in Warsaw, the son of Joseph T. and Lela A. Climer McGee. On Sep. 6, 1947, he married Lucille Allen. She died Jan. 19, 1976. On April 2, 1983, in Hamilton, he married Mary Jean Bradford. She survives.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Marv (Verlena) Collentine of Durango, Co., Patricia Siegrist of Warsaw, Carol Sitzmore of Hamilton; one son, Michael M. (Tammy) McGee of Wichita, Kan.; two step sons, H. Dewaine Bradford of Waynesboro, Pa., David W. (Shawn) Bradford of Broomfield, Colo.; one step daughter, Kathy L. Bradford of St. Louis, Mo.; two brothers, Richard H. McGee of Keokuk, Iowa, Edward Dale McGee of Mesa, Ariz.; one sister, Alberta "Bert" Coleman of Peoria, Ill.; eight grandchildren; one great granddaughter; one great grandson; 4 step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Leona Hart of Lomax.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; a granddaughter, Colleen Earls; a step granddaughter, Beverly Ann Bradford; a brother, James McGee; and a sister, Hazel Whitledge.
He was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army (tech Sgt. 39th Field Artillery, 3rd Infantry Division).
He was a High School Auto Mechanics Teacher for 15 years at Hamilton High School, retiring in 1985. He lived most of his life in Warsaw, moving to LaHarpe in Oct., 1992. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening and canning. He owned and operated McGee's Garage for many years.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 6, at Lamporte Funeral Home of Hamilton with Rev. Jerald Bown officiating. Burial in Oakland Cemetery in Warsaw. A full military graveside service will be held by Hamilton VFW Post #5256, Warsaw VFW Post #9802 and Warsaw Ralph Parker American Legion Post #682.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m., with family meeting friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lamporte Funeral Home of Hamilton.
Memorials have been established for the Hancock County Blessing Hospice, the LaHarpe Ambulance Fund, and the American Lung Association.
