June Hancock Wood, age 81, of Harborcreek, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Hamot Medical Center. She was born in Mantua, Ohio, June 3, 1928, daughter of the late Harvey and Marguerite Rosequist Hancock.

June grew up in Platea, Pa. where she attended grades 1-8. She was a graduate of Rice Avenue Union High School in Girard, Pa. in 1946. She earned her B.S. Degree from Edinboro State Teachers College in 1952 and did graduate work there. She taught school in Elk Creek Twp., Platea, Northwestern, Fairview and Harborcreek and in Saybrook, Ohio.

June was a member of First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant where she was a deacon and moderator of the Presbyterian Women. She was a life member of Shiloh Chapter #153 OES and was past president of Alpha Iota Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a member of Erie County Assn. of School Retirees, PASR, Koinonia of Erie County, Erie Co. Historical Society and Erie Society for Genealogical Study.

June is survived by her husband, William L. Wood, whom she married in 1955; a son, Scott W. Wood of Willoughby, Ohio; a daughter, Cynthia K. Smith (David) of McKean, Pa; three grandchildren, Sean, Ryan and Katelyn Murphy; three step-grandchildren, David, Krista and Brett Smith; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Funeral Service there on Monday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Harborcreek Fire Dept., 7275 Buffalo Rd., Harborcreek, PA 16421 or American Cancer Society–Erie Unit, 2115 West 38th St., Erie, PA 16508.
