Shellsburg Call: Samatha Blackburn was born in the southern part of Ohio, March 20, 1843, and died near Shellsburg, January 28, 1909, being at the time of her death sixty-five years, ten months and five days old. Her parents moved to Iowa when she was six years old, and where later she was united in marriage to Charles W. Baird, to which union were born three children, two daughters and one son, all of whom survive her. Her husband passed away in 1889. She leaves besides her children, eight grandchilden, four sisters and three brothers to mourn their loss. She has been a consistant member of the Christian church for twenty-five years and led a life beyond reproach and was one from whom all dread and fear of death was taken, as oft during her sickness she expressed a willingness to go and be with her Savior. She was loved by all who knew her, and expecially by the little ones, to whom she was ever kind and gentle. Funeral services were held at the U.B. church conducted by Rev. J.J. Hulme. Interment in U.B. cemetery.
