Mrs. Garris was a native of Spartanburg, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Grady Allison and Mary Orr Allison. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband of forty-nine years, Roscoe Garris; one son, Dan Garris.
Mrs. Garris was a homemaker and was a member of Skyland United Methodist Church in Asheville, North Carolina; she also attended Westminster Presbyterian Church in Johnson City.
Survivors include: two daughters, Pamela McDavid and her husband Rick of Johnson City and Cathy Cowans and her husband Mark of Overland Park, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Gregg Garris, Angela Jones and her husband Jeff, Michele Hall and her husband John, Janee Fleenor and her husband Chad, Ashley Oxendine and her husband Brian, Stephanie Falck and her husband Christopher and Jennifer Hershberger and her husband Justin; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at the Wellington Place, Johnson City Medical Center 4200 floor and the Johnson City Medical Center Hospice.
The funeral service for Mrs. Vera Allison Garris was conducted at 7 PM Monday, February 20, 2012 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Dr. Jim Richter will officiate. The family received friends from 5 to 7 PM prior to the service. The graveside committal service was conducted at 11:30 AM Tuesday in the Shepherd Memorial Park, Hendersonville, North Carolina. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Family and friends were requested to meet at the cemetery by 11:25 AM Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to The Gideons International, P.O. Box 3695, Johnson City Tn. 37602 or Alzheimer's Association , 207 North Boone Street, Johnson City, Tn.37604.
