Hiawassee,Ga., March 16-
Jackson Berrong, one of the leading citizens of Towns county, died here today at 3 o'clock. He had been in declining health for some time. Mr. Berrong was a Confederate soldier of the 24th Georgia regiment under Colonel Robert McMillan, Wofford's brigade, Longstreet's corps, in the army of Virginia. He was captured in 1863 at Cold Harbor, Va., and sent to Elmyra, N. Y. where he was in prison until the close of the war. He was born in Towns county, and lived here all his life. He is survived by his widow, eight sons, one daughter and four brothers. Funeral services and internment will be conducted at Old Hightower church Thursday.
