Services for Michael Glenn Ashley, 20, will be conducted today, Aug. 1, at 2 p.m. at Southwest Baptist Chruch in Amarillo with the pastor, Rev. J. Alan Ford, officiating.
Burial will follow at Memory Gardens under the direction of Holley Funeral Home, Canyon.
Born at Brady, Texas, on May 8, 1966, he was a 1985 graduate of Canyon High School and the son of John L. and Bea Ashley of 103 North 12th Street in Canyon. He was a member of Southwest Baptist Church in Amarillo and had recently signed enlistment papers with the U.S. Navy. He was due to report for training in December.
Ashley was employed with Lindsey Cattle Company and was also studying diesel mechanics.
He died Monday afternoon in a vehicular accident on Washington Street, FM 1541, when he was ejected from the pickup he was drving as it flipped and rolled four times. The accident occured as the pickup was attempting to pass a northbound car. Ashley's passenger, Jake Lee Lindsey, 16, of Rt. 4, Amarillo was hospitalized at Northwest Texas Hopsital in Amarillo. Both Ashley and Lindsey were thrown from the pickup as it rolled, according to DPS troopers. Neither man was wearing a seat belt.
Ashley is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Ashley of Canyon; five brothers, Willie of Amarillo, John L. Jr. and Kirk, Amarillo, twin brothers, Carrol and Harrol, both of Canyon, and two sisters, Connie McSwain of Chiefland, Fla. and Quilla Vickers of Canyon. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Ashley.
