Rochester pioneer. He inherited a large tract of farmland bought by his father from Phelps and Gorham, which he subdivided and sold off as lots to be developed as downtown Rochester. He constructed the first frame dwelling in the City and in 1810 persuaded the New York State legislature to finance the first bridge across the Genesee River. On its completion in 1812 it allowed settlers to cross the River and extend New York's development west to Niagara Falls. Stone died aged 75 and was interred on October 25th 1851. He was living on Chestnut Street at the time of his death.
