George "Poke" Yauger, 39, of Hopwood, was struck and fatally injured on Route 40 in Hopwood about 3 a.m. Sunday by a hit-and-skip driver. He died enroute to the hospital.
According to highway patrolmen who investigated the accident, at least two cars ran over the body before he was rushed to the Uniontown hospital by Charles Gaskill.
He had been seen at the Speedway Inn by friends less than a half hour before the accident occurred. Yauger had been in Uniontown and was on his way home.
State Highway patrolmen have been unable to determine what car first struck the victim.
Yauger is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Asby Yauger; his parents, Frank E. and Clara Wolfe Yauger; nine children, Dorothy, Dale, Frank, Harry, Robert, Elsie, Ann, Shirley, Ronald and Mary Jo; one brother, Earl, and two sisters; Mrs. Bertha Feeney, of Hutchinson, and Mrs. Ada Crawford, of Hopwood.
