At the age of twenty-one he entered Yale College,from which he was graduated in the class of 1765. He studied medicine with Dr. Hubbard of New Haven, and entered upon the practice of his profession in Amherst in 1767, where he remained until his death in 1816.
He was twice married, in 1765 to Sarah Beecher, who died in 1783; and in 1785 to Eunice Warner who died in 1822. By his first wife he had children, William, Thankful, Sarah, Fanny, Seth and Eliphalet.
