Homer G. Buck was born in Flowerfield Township, near Three Rivers, Michigan in 1864. He married Mary Ann Palzer in 1893. He worked for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, in Chicago, then Shebyville Indiana, then San Francisco, in time for the earthquake and fire in 1906. After the fire, he stayed in San Francisco. There he owned and ran a billiard parlor for a several years. After his wife, Mary Ann, died in 1920, he moved in with his son, Stanley, and worked with his sons in their Buck Brothers Welding Company. He died in a nursing home in Daly City in 1942.
