Herman D. Moore, 89, of Norwalk, Ohio, formerly of Patterson Township, passed away Monday, April 2, 2007. Born November 28, 1917, in Beaver Falls, a son of the late Scott and Florence (Moore) Moore, he was a 1936 graduate of New Brighton High School, a 1940 graduate of Geneva College, and received a degree in Mathematics and was Valedictorian. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, during which he was a meteorologist in the 15 Weather Squadron in the South Pacific. He received a master's degree in 1959 from the University of Pittsburgh. He retired as chairman of the math department at Beaver Area High in 1979. He taught for 23 years in Beaver and Patterson Township, Leetsdale (now Quaker Valley) and New Brighton for a total of 39 years. He formerly taught part-time at Geneva College, Penn State, and the Community College of Beaver County. A former Patterson Township auditor for 40 years, he was a member of the Chippewa Alliance Church, where he served in various offices, treasurer, elder, deacon, Sunday school superintendent and Sunday school teacher, and was a lay minister in the area.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Blanche Bebout Moore, on Feb. 15, 2007; a sister, Hazel Bender, and four brothers, Cyril "Spike", Robert, Chalmers and Albert Moore.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Duane and Marilyn Moore, Norwalk, Ohio; the Rev. Dr. Charles and Marilyn Moore, Dayton, Ohio, and David and Joy Moore, Hampton, Va.; a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Otis Houp, Lexington, Ky.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Florence Barnhardt, New Brighton; a brother, James Moore, Clearwater, Fla., and several nieces and nephews.
