Sybil Pullen

Note: Sybil was born in the small town of Fame, OK, about 5 miles northwest of Eufaula, OK. She was the baby of 3 sisters and 5 brothers. Growing up she picked cotton to help out on the farm . In 1929 Sybil moved to Muskogee, OK, to live with her brother Earl. She met Harry Hoover and they were married. It was a happy marriage that lasted the rest of their lives. They were blessed with 3 children, Gloria, Shirley and Jimmie. They often went to Honor Heights Park to picnic and row a canoe on the small lake. Sybil always cooked hamburgers on Saturday and had pop. She always cooked extra's to feed the boys that would come by. During WW2, Sybil and Harry showed their generosity and compassion by taking in a soldier and his wife to live with them and their 3 children. Sybil stayed home to raise their children and only after Harry became ill with tuberculosis at the ago of 42 did she go to work outside the home. She worked for a brief time at Calhoun's department store and then became the only woman postmistress in Muskogee at the age of 47 and remained there until she retired. Quaye Milan said it best when she wrote Sybil's eulogy, in which she said "As a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister or friend, Sybil was the essence of all seasons."
