Clay was born in the town of Galt in Grundy County, Missouri on December 7, 1931 to Hershel Clay Etherton and Velma LaDean Batson Etherton. On June 2, 1950 he was united in marriage to Doris "Flo" Johnson, with whom they had three daughters. He was a member of the Sunset Church of Christ. Clay is survived by his loving wife Flo, their three daughters and their husbands: Debra Cay and Paul North, Janet Sue and Robert Gard, and Gloria Jean and Scott Andrews; 8 grandchildren Charissa North, Aaron and Vanessa North, Vanessa and Fred Egler, Eric and Maria Gard, Destinee Gard, Alysen Andrews, Katy Andrews, and Ryan Andrews. Clay also had 10 great-grandchildren: Ashley North, Alyssa North, Micayla North, David North, Tristan North, Cadee Gard-Price, Kelby Gard, Stephen North, Liam and Keenan. We love and miss you despretely Papa and I know that you are up in heaven looking down on us and loving us too.
