Samuel S. Crockett, Somerset, Ky., husband of Edna New Crockett, passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2007, at the Somerset Nursing and Rehabitation Home. He was born on Sept. 26, 1915, in Somerset, Ky.

On Oct. 14, 1939, he was united in marriage to Edna New Crockett, in Jamestown, Ky., by the Rev. Poppelwell. They had 67 years together. Born to this union were two sons, Murrell and Gary Crockett.

Samuel Crockett graduated from Somerset High School in 1935. He was an outstanding football player.

Samuel served in World War II as a Sea Bee in the United States Navy, serving in the Philippine Islands, and was also a pipe fitter and a farmer.

He served our country honorably and was discharged on the seventh day of March 1946.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William M. Crockett and Myra Fish Crockett; and five brothers, William P., Bert, John, Ray and Joe; and three sisters, Louanne Turpin, Daisy Roberts and Virginia Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Edna New Crockett; two sons, Rev. Murrell (and Lucille) Crockett and Gary (and Marie) Crockett; also surviving is six grandchildren, Margaret Ann Blackburn, David Alan Crockett, Stephanie R. Jones, Melanie McDaniels, Eric Crockett and Sarah Beth Crockett; and seven great grandchildren. He also had several nieces and nephews.

He made his profession of faith in Jesus Christ at an early age and was united with the First Christian Church of Somerset, Ky. Sam leaves a host of friends and neighbors that were very special to him.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Dr. Harold Brown and Bro. Matthew Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family of Mr. Sam Crockett will receive friends after 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at the funeral home.

Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post # 38.

The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan.
