Edith L. Alsdorf Ferns was born in Thompson Falls, Montana on August 6, 1910 to Frank J. & Ollie (Peniston) Alsdorf. She moved to St. Helens, Oregon at the age of 13. In 1926, at 16 years old, Edith married Vern Jackson; he passed away in 1935. She married Victor Ferns on November 28, 1936 in Bend, Oregon. They moved to Ft. Rock from Florence in 1936, then to LaPine, then to Prineville in 1949. She worked as a cook from 1952 thru 1975 at Crooked River Elementary School in Prineville. Edith loved gardening, quilting, knitting and all kinds of handiwork. She loved the school kids, coming over to eat. She raised cows, horses, pigs, and chickens in Prineville. Edith enjoyed helping others, especially children, even when they were sick. She was a member of the Episcopal Church. Edith is survived by her son; Michael and his wife Dorothy Ferns of Bend, Oregon, and daughter; Arlene Riggs of Eagle, Idaho. Nine grandchildren and numerous great & great- great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, both her husband's; Vern in 1935, Victor in 1997, and two sons; Marvin and Buddy. She was 101.
