Evelan Florence Jarvis, 81, of Yarmouth, dies at 11:33 pm, Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa. Born October 1, 1922 in Des Moines County, she was the daughter of Dale and Edna (Weinrich) Gabeline. On October 25, 1941 she married Donald Jarvis in Yarmouth. Mrs. Jarvis was a homemaker. She was a 1941 graduate of Yarmouth High School. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Yarmouth, Women's Christian Fellowship and a 50 year member of Eastern Star, White Star Chapter 388 in Mediapolis. She enjoyed gardening and loved flowers, making bouquets for church and to give to people. She was an excellent cook and was famous for her chocolate pie. She was an accomplished musician, able to play piano, organ, trumpet, guitar and french harp. She would play the piano at Buff's Restaurant in Mt. Pleasant and could play by ear. Survivors include her husband, one daughter, Sandra Kolkman of New London; one son, Steven Jarvis of Dallas; five grandchildren; two great grand children; one brother, Robert Gabeline of Morning Sun; two sisters, Roberta Bliesener of Burlington and JoAnn Waters of Northfork, California; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter and one sister. The funeral for Mrs. Jarvis will be at 2pm Sunday at Elliott Chapel in New London, with the Rev. Ed Davis. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery in Mt. Union.
