Thelma Branch Church, age 97, of Duke Street, Granite Falls, joined our Lord in heaven on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at Lutheran Home in Hickory. She was born September 26, 1912 in Caldwell County to the late William Walker and Mattie Icard Branch. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Sidney Church; one son, Rev. Joe Bill Church; two brothers, John Branch and William Walker Branch; and two sisters, Mary Branch Bumgarner and Kathline Branch Hollar.*
Mrs. Church was a member of First Baptist Church of Rhodhiss and was the owner of Joe's Food Shop. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Sigmon and husband Eugene of Hudson; daughter-in-law, Betty Teague Church of Valdese; five grandchildren, Stephen Sigmon and wife Carolina, David Michael Sigmon and wife Sherrie, Kathy Via and husband Richard, Karen De Vane and husband Boyd and John David Church; ten great-grandchildren, Allison, Stephen, Spencer, Summer and Lance Sigmon, Anthony, Robert and Julia Martinat, Patrick and Joseph De Vane.
Funeral services will be held Sunday November 15, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Rhodhiss conducted by Rev. John Coffey, Rev. Doug St. John and Rick Miller. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
