He was born Nov. 30, 1943, in Winamac, to Raymond and Evelyn Owen Hauptli. Mr. Hauptli was a lifelong resident of Nappanee.
He received his GED while serving in the United States Air Force.
He married Ruth Ann Miller, Nov. 21, 1970, in Goshen.
She survives with five daughters, Regina and Renee Hauptli, both of Elkhart, Becky (Scott) Newcomer, Rae Annette and Rita Hauptli, all of Nappanee; six grandchildren, Corbin Johnson, Blane and Tray Newcomer, Makayla, Kyler and Hanna Hauptli; a sister, Sara Mullin of Lafayette; three brothers, Eugene (Laura) Hauptli of Francesville, Keith (Deb) Hauptli of Medaryville and Terry (Tonya) Hauptli of Plymouth.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nancy Hauptli.
Mr. Hauptli was a truck driver. He attended Nappanee Missionary Church. He was a member of the Nappanee American Legion and enjoyed bowling, fishing and gardening.
Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Nappanee Missionary Church Chapel and for one hour prior to the funeral service, which will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Nappanee Missionary Church Sanctuary. Officiating will be Pastor Justin Lamason and Pastor Marvin Engbrecht. Burial will in South Union Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by the Nappanee American Legion.
