Alvin was the son of Henry L. and Sarah (Lothridge) Mace. In the 1880 Census of Wapello County, Iowa, Alvin was living with his father, Henry L., who was shown as divorced. Henry L. was remarried on June 20, 1889, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to a Sarah E. Vaness Mace. That Sarah is shown to be the daughter of John Vaness, and her mother's name was Scarlett.

Alvin's obituary, which I have transcribed below, names one of his sons as Angelo Mace. The correct name was Anglo.

Alvin A. Mace. 68 years old, died at 4:20 a.m. today at his home, Agency, route 1. He as born in Agency April 7, 1867, and had lived in the community all his life.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; two sons, Angelo [sic] Mace of Estherville, and Ernie Mace of Mason City; a daughter, Ethel, Estherville; three step-sons, John Theilen of Agency and William and G.L. Theilen of Ottumwa; three step-daughters, Mrs. Anna Lane, Mrs. Mary Pumroy, and Mrs. Clara Phillips, all of Ottumwa; and two brothers, D.H. Mace and George Mace of Clarks, Neb.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Johnson funeral chapel, the Rev. Lawrence A. Stumme, of St. Paul's Lutheran church, officiating. Pallbearers aill be Joe Tierney, Robert Jarvis, Charles Orman, Thayer Rupe, Harry Byerly, and John Coleman. Burial will be in the Agency cemetery.
