Jacob Gutzman, Eighty-Four Years Old, Formerly Lived In St. Joseph and Wathena – Left Here Six Years Ago.

Jacob Gutzman, eighty-four years old, a retired farmer and an old resident of Wathena and St. Joseph, died Saturday at his home at Los Angeles, according to word received in St. Joseph.

Mr. Gutzman removed to California six years ago. He is survived by his wife, Albertina Gutzman, Los Angeles; a son, Adolph Gutzman, Conception Junction, Mo., and eight daughters, Mrs. L. L. Trader, Mrs. E. E. Pumphrey and Mrs. M. W. Cavan, St. Joseph; Mrs. Carl Tharman, Troy, Kan.; Mrs. A. L. Schwope, Follett, Texas, and Mrs. C. T. Hanavan, Mrs. Tillie DeShon and Miss Lillian Gutzman, Los Angeles. Burial will be in Los Angeles.

Jacob came to America from Germany in 1868.

On October 2, 1874 in Buchanan Co., Missouri (likely in St. Joseph, MO) he married Albertina Benitz. They lived most of their married life in Marion, Doniphan Co, KS; moving to St. Joseph, MO between 1905 and 1910. In the early 1920's they moved to Los Angeles, CA where they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in October 1924.
