Deceased Name: George B. Corson
George B. "pete" corson, 71, died peacefully Monday, June 27, 2011, in Fort Myers, Fla., with family by his side.
he was born Feb. 12, 1940, in Woodstock, to sidney G. and Authorine (Burnbrier) corson. he married Gayle (Blohm) eckert Feb. 14, 1987.
he was proud of his law enforcement career with the Mchenry county sheriff's department. he spent 30 years with the department and retired in 1990 as a sergeant and director of special services. he was the winner of the J. stanton Baker award for excellence in traffic safety.
he was a proud member of Bpoe 1043 and held many positions with the elks. he served with the Woodstock Rural Fire department and the Woodstock Rescue squad. he also was active in kiwanis, Illinois police Association, International Association of Arson Investigators, northern Illinois Arson Task Force, Gov. Jim edgar's dUI project task force and the Woodstock chamber of commerce and Industry.
he sold his home in 1999, and he and his wife and traveled in a large fifthwheel trailer for six years. They crossed the country with many traveling friends, worked in campgrounds and enjoyed the beautiful country and the people they met. In 2003, the couple bought a small home in Ft. Myers and became active in a senior community, orange harbor. corson served on the homeowners board of the park as president and as director of public safety. They became active in the First United Methodist church and devoted many hours to missions and church projects.
he was serving as president of Methodist Men at the time of his death.
he adored his grandchildren and looked forward to their visits. he took much pride in their accomplishments.
survivors include his loving wife; a son, Brad (Joan), London, england, and The Woodlands, Texas; two daughters, cathy (nick) nelson, Loves park, and Janine (Brandon) heidtke, Woodstock; two stepsons, craig (sharon) eckert, kodiak, Alaska, and eric (stacie) eckert, Grand Rapids, Mich; seven grandchildren, cassandra, nicholas, Madelyn, hannah, Abigail, William and Althea; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends all over the country.
he was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, suzanne Meir; and a brother, Todd.
Visitation was July 7 and the funeral was July 8 at schneider-Leucht-Merwin & cooney Funeral home, Woodstock. he was buried next to his parents in oakland cemetery, Woodstock.
