A professor at the UW-Madison, The Janesville Gazette (2/9/1906), said of Frankenburger: "The death of Professor David B. Frankenburger, of the faculty of the University of Wisconsln is a loss to the university, to the state, and to the country. There is perhaps no man, in the university faculty, who was so thoroughly beloved by his pupils and the student body as a whole as Professor Frankenburger. His sad death leaves a vacancy in the lists of the university traditions that will be hard to fill."
