J. D. Porter Dies At Home Of Daughter
Joseph D. Porter, 93, former Elwood resident, died at 9:30 o'clock Wednesday evening in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lee Huffman, of Anderson. He had been ill the past several months.
Born Oct. 24, 1868 in Tipton county, he was the son of George and Susan Porter.
He was married to Flora Mae Sallee on April 7, 1889. She died Feb. 12, 1953.
He was a retired employe of the Carnegie Illinois Steel plant in Elwood and was a member of the Pilgrim Holiness church.
Surviving are: three daughters, Mrs. Lee Huffman, Anderson, Mrs. Ella Parry, Elwood, Mrs. Opal Carlile, Los Angeles, Calif., one son, Luther Robert Porter, Anderson; and 17 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren.
The body is at the Clark chapel where friends may call on Friday. Funeral rites will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Pilgrim Holiness church, Rev. R. W. Wooten will officiate. Burial will be made in the Elwood City cemetery.
