Death of Charles S. Pratt
Was for Many Years a Well-Known Contractor
Charles S. Pratt, 85, of North street died Saturday night after a long illness. He was a native of Northampton and was the son of Thomas Pratt. For many years Thomas Pratt & Son were leading building contractors in Northampton and erected many of the best-known residences of the city. William F. Pratt, a brother of Charles, was for more than a generation the principal architect of the old town and city, and another brother, Levi Pratt of New York state, who died a few years ago, was widely known. In early life Charles S. Pratt was an active member of the fire department, and he had a talent for music, which was shown by his membership in the choir of St John's Episcopal church and in the local band. He was a Free Mason, being a member of Jerusalem lodge, and of Northampton commandery of Knights Templar. Mr. Pratt married Rachel Stickney of South Hadley, who died in 1890. A son Charles S. Pratt, Jr., died a few months ago, and he is survived by a daughter Miss Harriet Pratt. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 3.
