Mother of famous pioneer preacher, Rev. Peter Cartwright. She had two illegitimate children with Dr. Edmund Wilcox, a wealthy plantation owner. She married Peter Cartwright, Sr., a Revolutionary soldier, February 27, 1787, at Amherst County, Virginia. One of the Wilcox sons became a minister and the other son was hung for murder, (many believe he was framed). Married, Peter Cartwright, Sr., and then moved to Kentucky. Had three children by Peter Cartwright. She died at the home of her daughter-in-law, Sophia White Wilcox, wife of the son who was hung for murder. Rev. Peter was the only child to survive his mother. Both his sisters had died before Christiana. Not much is known about Christiaan. Rev. Peter wrote in his biography, saying his mother was an orphan and never mentions anything about her, for the rest of his life. We do know that she was his mother as they are listed together in the court records for Peter Sr.'s will. Also, Rev. Peter Cartwright was born after she married his father, which Rev. Peter never mentions.

Court documents prove she was a servant in Dr. Edmund Wilcox's home. She may have been black or mulatto. Dr. Wilcox left money in his will for the care of her and both boys. He he finally married and died shortly after the birth of a child. His new and only wife, contested the will and poor Christiaan lost the court case and received nothing.
