Funeral services for Hazel Max Smith, 87, of Clarksville, TN were Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Scott Whitt officiating, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery in Clarksville.
Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Smith died Monday, August 18 at Gateway Medical Center in Clarksville. She was born in Caplin, New Mexico on May 18, 1916. She was the former owner of a mattress and upholstery business in New Mexico. She was of the Protestant faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Lily Cole Coffee; and her husband, Emmitt H. Spurgeon.
Survivors include two sons, Emmit L. Spurgeon of Clarksville, TN and Bobby R. Spurgeon of Clearwater, FL; six grandchildren, Emmit L. Spurgeon II, Denis Edge, Teri Spurgeon, Robert Spurgeon, Mike West and Cathy West; a sister, Merle Cole of Cannon City, CO; five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 2000 Charlotte Ave., Nashville TN 37203.
