Juanita Z. Stofer, 90, of Taylor Road, died at 2:03 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2004, at Four Seasons Health Care Center.

Mrs. Stofer retired in 1993 as advocate coordinator for the regional Association of Retarded Citizens after serving 12 years as executive secretary of Mental Health Retardation Planning, which built Quinco Consulting Center. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Columbus, American Business Women's Association, Altrusa Club of Columbus, Bartholomew County Past Presidents, Extension Homemakers and Social Order of Beauceant.

She was the first winner of the President's Award from Developmental Services Inc. On Sept. 20, 1993, Mayor Bob Stewart declared Juanita Stofer Day in her honor. She was a Red Cross volunteer at Columbus Hospital during World War II.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Myers Funeral Service, Hathaway–Myers Chapel on Pearl Street, with the Rev. Jerry K. Day Sr. officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and noon until service time Wednesday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, American Association of Retarded Citizens and Hospice of Bartholomew County.

Mrs. Stofer was born Sept. 20, 1913, Lawrenceville, Ill., the daughter of Clarence and Edna King Curran. She married George W. Stofer on Feb. 19, 1933, in Brownstown.

She is survived by a son, George Rick Stofer of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; daughters, Patricia R. Stofer of Bossier City, La., and Cynthia Stofer of Columbus; and a sister, Margie Leek of Orlando, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on May 10, 1964; brothers, Charles and William Curran; and a sister, Gladys Alka.
