Funeral services for Sam A. Ribble Jr., 79, of Lubbock, will be at 10 a.m. Friday in W.W. Rix Chapel with Clint Stephenson officiating.

Burial will be under the direction of Rix Funeral Directors.

He died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, in San Antonio.

He was born in Lubbock on April 27, 1921, and spent his youth in Shamrock, where he graduated from Shamrock High School. Following service in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, he married Sue Ash in Lubbock on July 6, 1944.

He was employed by Baldridge Bakery prior to owning floral shops in Levelland, Lubbock and Kingsland. He was a civic leader in Lubbock and belonged to the American Business Club. He served as president and rodeo chairman for the club. He also was past president of the Texas-New Mexico Florist Association and was a member of Lubbockview Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue, on Nov. 17, 1999.

Survivors include a son, Jay of San Antonio; a daughter, Sherry Tomlinson of Fullerton, Calif.; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
