Lula Mae Pickelsimer Hamby, 86 died February 9, 1997 in a Sweetwater Convalescent Home. A native of Cherokee, NC she had lived in Polk County for several years. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Kilpatrick Pickelsimer and was of the Baptist Faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence B. Hamby.

She is survived by two sons and daughters in law, Willard and Becky Hamby, and Marlin and Deane Hamby; a sister Alma Williamson of Ducktown, two granddaughters and three grandsons (not named here for privacy reasons.)

Funeral services were conducted in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with Rev. Buster Lindsey and Rev. Charles DeFriese officiating. Interment to follow in Campground Cemetery.

Lula and Lawrence were married Oct 9, 1931 in Polk County, Tennessee.

Lula's siblings in the 1910 Census of Cherokee County, NC were Florence, Charlie, Wade, Lillie, Noah, Otis, Hershel, Owen, (Lula), and Alma. Only Lula and Alma were still home in 1930. Alma was named in Lula's obit as marrying a Williamson; she died in 2001.
