Rebecca, William and children moved to Franklin Twp., Fulton County near Burligton from Seneca County, Ohio by ox cart in 1853. The area was mostly wooded and traces of Indians still remained in the area. That same year her husband, William, died of injuries from an accident while felling trees. It must have been very difficult for Rebecca and the children struggling on a new frontier without a father.
They had eight children. Links to all eight children's graves are below. Sadly, two daughters, Rebecca and Emaly, died before reaching adulthood. All three of her sons served in the Civil War. John was in the 10th Cavalry, Andrew Jackson and Daniel A Clingaman served in Co. D, 195th OVI.
Daniel was the last living Civil War veteran in Ohio dying at the venerable age of 104Y-4M-23D. He is the only one of the family I met. I'm proud to say he was my G-Grandfather.
