Mrs. McKinney, when a bride of one year, came to Blue Ridge in 1861 with her husband, Samuel J. McKinney, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John F. Griffith. At the close of the war, the young couple settled on the farm home, one mile west of Blue Ridge, where she has always since resided until a few months ago.
Mr. McKinney died in 1904. Besides Mrs. Burns, three other daughters survive, Mrs. J. P. Dotson, Utopia; Mrs. Emma Cox, Water Valley; Mrs. A. H. Baird, Clovis, N. M., and the sons, J. J. McKinney and Ed McKinney of San Angelo and Charles A. McKinney of Water Valley.
