"LOUIE" M. Oct. 19, 1927 to July 23, 2011

After a lengthy illness, ''Louie" 83, passed away peacefully at home with his beloved wife JoAnn by his side. A native of San Diego, he attended Hoover High School, excelling in football. At the age of 17, before finishing high school, he joined the U.S. Navy as a tribute to his father Louis Rupert Erreca, who was killed during World War lI in December '41. After Louie's honorable discharge in 1946, he returned to Hoover High to complete his education and play football which he dearly loved. He also played football on the weekends with the Logan Heights Toltecs, until he went on to participate in this same sport for San Diego Junior College. He was a "star!" In 1950, Louie again enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War. Upon his return, he served on the La Mesa Police department for three years followed by ten years as a S.D. Deputy Sheriff, ending his service as a Narcotics Detective. For the next 28 years he had a successful structural steel contracting business (Cajon Steel, then EZ Iron) until his retirement in 1992. Post retirement he worked for a few years as a security guard at the Del Mar Racetrack. In 1995 he founded and became President of the San Diego Jocks Club, an organization which honored the still living athletes from the 30's through the 60's. In addition to his military service, the San Diego Jocks was one of his proudest achievements, which will live on into the future. Louie is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, JoAnn Skipper Cole Erreca, his children from his first marriage, Renee Erreca Penner and Wayne Erreca, his stepchildren, Tom Cole and Debi Nielsen, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. There will be a private family service with honors at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery followed by a memorial luncheon at the Bali Hai Restaurant. The San Diego Jocks will honor his memory at their yearly meeting at 9 a.m. on January 27, 2012 at Tom Ham's Restaurant. For info contact Phil Prather at 1-858-488-7805. The family would like to thank the gentle assistance given to Louie by Kaiser Palliative Care and his caregiver Mary Andreoli. Louie loved his country, his beautiful wife JoAnn his family, his friends. He will be deeply missed.
