They were wonderful, old fashioned people. He worked for the Southern RR and even in gas station at night until he could afford a small farm out on Statesville Hwy which he bought in 1938 or so. He moved to discuss and talk politics and was the rock throwing champion of Rowan County. (submitted by Raymond Smith, grandson)
