Dan Branson passed away on 15 Feb 2012 following several months of illness.
Dan was born in Randsburg, CA on 15 Mar 1928 to Nellie and Bob Branson. In his childhood, he spent time drawing cartoons, playing baseball, basketball and boxing. After graduating from high school, he joined the Army and spent two tours in the Korean War as a Forward Observer for a mortar platoon.
Following the Army, in 1958 Dan met Maggie, his wife of more than 53 years. He applied for a job as an apprentice machinist at NOTS China Lake, CA. He completed the program and continued in a successful career as a machinist and technician at China Lake, mostly in Michelson Lab for 36 years. Following in hi machinist legacy steps were his son David Branson, a machinist at China Lake and grandson Daniel Branson, now a machinist at Salt Wells.
After work, Dan liked to bowl, playing in Ridgecrest, CA leagues for over 30 years. He even scored a perfect 300 game at the old Ridgecrest Bowling Alley. He was also dedicated to raising his five sons and took many family vacations doing what they loved most, camping and fishing. Dan also managed all five boys in China Lake Little League, on the Red Sox team for 19 years.
Dan was a loving and caring husband to Maggie, and father to their five sons. Dan is survived by his wife and children Don & Diane, David & Frieda, Bob, and John & Melanie, all of Ridgecrest. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, sister Gloria Padgett, mother-in-law Florence Pickelheimer, sister-in-law Theora Thompson and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by son Buford, his parents and sister Norma Ford.
