In 1895 he enlisted in Co. B13th U.S. Infantry and served in the western United States until war was declared with Spain. His regiment was ordered to Cuba. He was wounded in the leg while in Santiago and contracted yellow fever and typho malaria. He was honorably discharged and returned home Sept. 5th.
Camp No. 60, Sons of Veterans attended the funeral and he was interred with military honors.
